The South African Wedding Guide

152 of their closest friends and family shared their most memorable day with them, on 8 January 2011 when Carmen and Chris tied the knot at the Beach Break Resort in Cape St Francis in the Eastern Cape.

During the ceremony, before all the formalities began they incorporated a worship time where everyone joined in praising God. Carmen describes this moment as overwhelming.

ATTIRE

Colinda Raath designed Carmen's beautiful vintage inspired ivory dress. The gown had a sweetheart neckline with an open back. Made from lace, the dress was finished off with a beautiful satin bow around the waist. Carmen has only got praise for Colinda's design and said the following: "She was outstanding. She understood exactly what I was trying to describe to her, and I was so so happy with the finished product."

DETAILS

With colours such as pastel green, cream and a touch of red, the bride opted for a vintage theme combined with beautiful fabrics, consol jars and not forgetting the lace which was incorporated as well. The consol jars were decorated with green and cream ribbon and some even covered with the lace. They were filled with a bunch of white roses. The roof was draped with fairy lights and white paper lanterns.

DJ Phatstix entertained the guests with music during the night and the bride and groom had a fantastic time on the dancefloor.

THE CAKE

The chocolate gnash cake was a combined effort between The Pastryworks and Allison Kellet.

DIY BRIDE

The bride designed her own invitations and was also responsible for the overlays, centerpieces and name tages.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Ingrid Marais took photographs of Carmen and Chris' wedding and ensured they had lasting memories.

ADVICE

Some advice from Carmen: "Try your very best to not get frustrated or freaked out if things don’t go according to plan. Bottom line is, you are still going to be married to the person you love and that’s all that matters. My wedding was supposed to be on the beach, and an hour before the wedding, the wind picked up and I had to move it inside. I was feeling so overwhelmed and emotional about the sudden change of plans. The song I was supposed to walk down the aisle to was 4 minutes long, perfect for the long beach walk, but far too long for the short distance from the door to my groom and not the type of song you could just fade out. I also stressed because my brides maids were carrying umbrellas which I thought may look stupid indoors. I could feel myself wanting to cry. But I pulled myself together and just remembered what the main thing was: to get married and have a jol with all my precious friends and family! And I really did! I loved everything about my wedding day!"
