The South African Wedding Guide

Anyone who's ever played scrabble knows how much fun it is. I came across this lovely DIY favour idea and thought to share it with you for some DIY inspiration.

By following the simple steps below you too can make your own love letter favours.

This is what you’ll need:

  • Wooden Scrabble Tiles (enough for one 4 letter word per favour)
  • Strong Magnets
  • Slide top tins
  • Hot glue
  • Spray Adhesive
  • Patterned Paper
  • Scissors
  • Sanding Paper
  • Ribbon
  • Favour Tag
  • Newspaper

Now follow these easy steps:

STEP ONE

Collect enough wooden scrabble tiles to make one four letter word (kiss/love/hope/true/wish)per favour.

STEP TWO

Make up as many four letter words as you can. Get friends and family involved so you can have a variety of words.

STEP THREE

Hot glue one magnet to the back of each scrapbook tile. When putting them down to dry make sure to not put them too close to each other as the magnets might get stuck to each other.

STEP FOUR

Cut the patterned paper the same size as your closed top tin.

STEP FIVE

Put the newspaper down and spray the paper with the spray adhesive. Stick onto the slide tins immediately.

STEP SIX

Sand the edges of the tins and if you are going for a vintage look you can sand the top of the tins too. Make sure the tops have been left to dry overnight before sanding them.

STEP SEVEN

Fill the tins with the four letter words. Tie the tins with ribbons and attach the favour tags

And there you have it, a simple DIY favour.

I would also like to know where you found all the letters. I need them for something else at my wedding and the only original game I found with the wooden letters cost R391 on line

Hi Ladies, although it seems like a great idea to use genuine scrabble letters, why not try and replace these by making your own scrabble tiles. This would be far more cost effective and so much fun. I've had a look around on the internet and found this tutorial which could be useful in assisting with this task: http://what-a-beautiful-mess.blogspot.com/2011/01/faux-scrabble-letters-tutorial.html Hope this helps and let us know if you used this DIY :-)
