The South African Wedding Guide

The colour combination of champagne and dusty pink has become very popular overnight, and with the versatility of these colours brides really are able to customise the palette easily.

For the more daring bride adding touches of the colours to your wedding dress could definitely make a statement. Wear a traditional white wedding gown during the ceremony and add a bow, flower or lace accent in either dusty pink or champagne for the reception.

Combine different shades of pink to give your wedding some interest, adding white to the centerpieces will also lift it a bit.

Lace is the perfect fabric to add as it compliments both colours very well, giving you the vintage feel. Add lace to your wedding invitations, wrap your bouquet stem with it or tie it around the napkins are just some of the ways in which you can use it.

Offset the champagne and dusty pink with either white or cream, add touches of gold accents or even a mocha brown and create your palette to your hearts desire.

Although black is not a popular choice for weddings, it really has a place paired with other colours. Not only does black look romantic and spectacular paired with red, but there is something about combining it with teal and white that really works.

I love the fact that some brides are bold enough to try non-traditional colour combinations such as this one.

Nifty ideas to incorporate with this colour combo

  • Bake some homemade chocolate chip cookies and pack them in cellophane bags. Tie with a beautiful teal ribbon and add a monogrammed sticker. Give these to the guests as favours.
  • For something different tie little pieces of organza ribbon around the stem of a wine glass. To funk it up combine your different wedding colours to achieve your overall look.
  • Make your own “just married” sign by painting an old piece of wood white. Paint the words Just Married on there in either blue or black.
  • Most girls dye their shoes the colour of their wedding, but why not incorporate the groom’s socks in the same idea? Have him wear striped socks matching the colours of your wedding.

The peacock feather first became a popular design motif during the Art Nouveau movement. With exquisite colours, it continues to be a popular choice when adding a touch of exotic glamour to wedding décor. Be careful when incorporating peacock feathers into your wedding as less is more in this case. Instead of using the actual feathers in every aspect of the wedding, bring in beautiful shades of plum, eggplant, lavender, sage and apple instead. Keep it classy - just a handful of peacock detailing will do the trick.

Nifty ideas to incorporate with this colour combo

  • Add some peacock flair to your wedding hair by adding a beautiful peacock feather to your hair piece.
  • Your guest book and pen is another area that’s easy to incorporate the feather without going overboard.
  • Who wouldn’t love these shoes?! With stunning detail on the side of the shoe, it incorporates the colours beautifully and is a definite must.
  • Surprise everyone by attaching a peacock feather to your garter.
  • At the ceremony, insert a peacock feather into the pew arrangements to truly make a statement of your chosen theme.
