The South African Wedding Guide

Posted: 10 August 2011

As a wedding planner I often get to visit some of the most sought after places and hidden gems in and around South Africa, and when I got an invitation to go visit Bamboo, The Guest House in Knysna, I couldn't resist and accepted.

Upon our arrival there, my husband and I were greeted by Preston, an extremely friendly guy who's only recently joined the dynamic team. He showed us around their magnificent gardens and each little cottage with it's own little walkway and sunny stoep. With over 15 rooms there is a favourite for everyone, and my husband took a liking to a room called "Pikinini".

He took us to the honeymoon loft suite where we were going to spend the night, and it was meticulous. Not a thing was out of place. There was wood stacked for us to make our own cosy fire, and sherry and homemade macaroons. The room was beautifully decorated and had the most exquisite bathroom.

For dinner we were invited to their Indian Curry Night. The dining room was beautifully made up and the smells were divine. We got to meet Jaynie and Gordon, the owners of Bamboo, as well as some of the other family members including "gran" (Gordon's mom) who also lives on the property.

The next morning we were spoiled to a lovely breakfast. The first course was a spread of cereals, fruit salads and yoghurt, followed by your choice of one of their main breakfasts from their menu.

If you are looking for the most romantic getaway, or even just a relaxing break from everyday routine, I can highly recommend that this is the place to go! We loved it so much that we have booked our next getaway for the end of August before I start working fullsteam on weddings again - and this time we showing it off to friends of ours :-D.

Preston, Gran, Jaynie and Gordon, thanks a mil for the amazing accommodation!
