Candy and Herman tied the knot in what the bride called an "untraditional" wedding ceremony on Saturday, 29 January 2011 at Riverside Hall in Port Elizabeth with 106 of their closest friends and family looking on.

Entering the chapel on the beautiful song from Jason Mraz’s "I’m Yours", the bride opted not to wear a veil but instead wore a beautiful white flower to symbolise life and happiness as she had lost both her parents. This flower also symbolised her late mothers love for harvesting flowers.

ATTIRE

Candy opted to rent her dress from Claire from Bridal Flair. An A-line layered vintage inspired white strapless gown with small crystals in-between the lace was Candy's dress of choice. Helen Le Roux from Hairquarters did Candy's make-up while Casey, also from Hairquarters finished off the look with a beautiful bridal hairstyle.

Catherine from Catherines Bridal Accessories dyed Candy's satin wedding shoe a beautiful purple colour that tied into her theme of black and purple with white while the rest of her stationery was from Atmosphere.

Herman and his groomsmen wore suits from Heinz In Style.

DETAILS

The couple made use of Stanley Lemmer of Lemmer Estates for their bridal transport. With a beautiful colour scheme of purple, black and white Angelic Wonders provided most of the gorgeous decor to match. Minimal flowers were used however, the main table as well as the bouquets and buttonholes were done by Isobel from Flowers.com. Matthew Strydom from Multi-tasking finished off the look with beautiful printed stationery. Each guest was treated to a handmade nougat bar as a thank you gift from the couple.

DJ Vernon made sure that the guests had fun by providing the reception dance music. The couple opened the dancefloor with a very untraditional choice of Greece Ligthing.

THE CAKE

Instead of a traditional wedding cake, the couple asked East Cape Foods to make them dessert cups. There was a choice of two types of fillings – Fudge Picasso and Double Decker Chocolate. The topper cake was a Fudge Picasso Cake with chocolate coulis and cream. The couple had their own personalised cake topper, the groom running with a Rugby Ball (Because apparently Hermand is such a fanatic) and the bride tackling him around the ankles.

DIY BRIDE

Candy made her own serviette rings from purple ribbon and different shaped beads as well as the favour boxes.

PHOTOGRAPHS

Cherie Theron captured the couple's beautiful wedding while Debbie Louw was responsible for the video.

HONEYMOON

After the wedding the couple enjoyed their honeymoon at the beautiful Sugar Hotel and beauty Spa in Cape Town.

ADVICE

Words of wisdom from Candy: "Make sure you plan well in advance, if you can get a planner to assist you with doing your wedding – do so – it is a lot less stressful, take-in (mentally) as much as you can take in on the day because it goes by very quickly – take the time to look at your hard work (mental photographs)the look on the people’s faces when you enter – enjoy it and relax, this is the one day in your life that it is all about You – enjoy the day while it lasts and don’t let the little things stress you out – the day is about something much more special than, guests not arriving, or flowers not being the perfect color – it is about the union of a unique couple, and enjoy it as such!"

Joachim, famously known as one of the 10 men who entered a reality show “Boer soek ‘n vrou” on Kyknet, actually knew his wife, Riza, even before he got involved in the programme.

They tied the knot at the Winkler Hotel in White River on 12 March 2011 while 126 of their closest family and friends watched on.

When asked about her most memorable moment, Riza had the following to say: “I guess this is a very stereotype question and everyone will say the ceremony. And yes so is my answer, when I walked down the aisle with my Farther Hans Swart, it was like I was in a little bubble, I tried looking at everyone and see their faces but I just couldn’t take my eyes off of my hubby-to-be. He had this look in his eyes which I’ll remember and live to tell our kids one day. When my dad handed me over to him, he grabbed me and held me so tight and said “I’ll never let you go, you look amazing”. At that very moment it felt like my heart was beating in my toes, I was flabbergasted by the moment and the emotions running through me like a lightning bolt! That very feeling I had there, standing there with him, him rubbing my hand. That was it… KNOWING, is the right word. Knowing that there cant be anything better than this.”

ATTIRE

Riza designed her own wedding dress while Mitzi Heunis was responsible for making the sketch come to life. She decided on a fitted mermaid style gown made of duchess satin and adorned with beaded detailing on the bodice. Spanish lace was incorporated on the skirt. The shoulders of the dress also had lace with beaded detail. “I wanted to feel comfortable and for the dress to stay up the whole time. I absolutely love my wedding dress and it does really personify who I am too, I have even hung it out to look at it everyday!” says Riza.

Riza bought her shoes from Middestad Fabrics, and her “something borrowed” was a pair of earrings from her best friend.

Her hair was done by Remano from Michael Angelo Hair studio and Mignonne did her make-up.

DETAILS

Joachim’s dog, Ice, was part of the couple’s ceremony. Very dear to him, she has been his “best friend” for almost 10 years.

With Joachim being a banana, macadamia and avo farmer, it was only fitting that they incorporated the relaxed farm feel. They both love earthy colours, such as truffle brown, green and ivory, and settled on this as a colour scheme. Riza added a touch of vintage to make it a little more feminine. To fit their natural theme, their choice for wedding flowers was the Protea, paired with white, and vintage pink roses.

The actual ceremony was held underneath a big tree, which was draped with white material. A large cross was hung inside the tree’s trunk. Metal hearts were wedged into the ground with ivy and white roses to add some detail. Brown tiffany chairs with white seat pads were used for the ceremony and every second chair had a little umbrella to provide the guests with shade.

At the entrance to the reception big wooden hearts adorned with roses were hung. The venue was so beautiful the couple really didn’t have to do too much. The centre pieces featured square wooden boxes with brown lanterns combined with proteas, roses and brown calla lillies. They had a large dance floor with fairy-lights to create a romantic mood.

All their décor was hired from a company called DH online and Mercia Smith did a beautiful job on the exquisite flowers.

The guests were entertained by a DJ from Audio Visual Sound Hire.

DIY BRIDE

Riza made her own confetti cones (with help from friends). “I took my sister in law’s music sheets and made confetti cones from them. It looked stunning, gave a bit of vintage feel to it because the book was old and the paper started going brown,” says Riza. She also printed her own seating cards. Joachim made the metal hearts for them and a friend from MI-HI furniture was responsible for the wooden boxes.

THE CAKE

The couple decided to move away from the traditional wedding cake. Instead, they had a dessert table where they served cheesecake, black forest cake and crème brulee’s as well as little jelly sweets and nuts. It was such a hit that the guests devoured it all.

PHOTOGRAPHS

Ingrid Marais was flown to White River for this special occasion and took the most gorgeous photos of the couple’s special day.

HONEYMOON

After their wedding the couple enjoyed a relaxing weekend in Mauritius.

ADVICE

Riza’s advice to future brides: “I guess it’ll be to HAVE FUN!!! It’s such a memorable day, and goes past in a flash. Dance, laugh, live and dream! That day is yours, so make the best of it. “

Standing in her wedding dress outside the beautiful Fynbos Country and Golf Estate, Eloïse, a school teacher on any other given day, was 30 minutes early for her ceremony. With a cool breeze blowing and droplets of rain falling on her skin she was more than ready to walk down the aisle to meet her prince charming, Johan-Henry.

The ceremony, conducted by Eloïse’s brother, Petrus Roux was truly special. The picture this couple had in their minds was just the two of them, in front of God, saying their vows. This is also why the chose not to have a bridal party.

ATTIRE

The wedding dress can only be described as utterly gorgeous! Tanya from Belle Daring Designs really did an amazing job and summarises what she did as follows: “It is a white wide wedding dress with a taffeta basis. The underskirt and corset was built into the dress. The corset was covered with Chantilly lace and voile draping underneath the bust. The bust area was rounded off with beads and special pearls which matched Eloise’s jewellery. The bottom part of the dress (skirt) was covered with voile and was slightly taken up with beads. At the back I also finished the dress off with round buttons which gave the dress a touch of the vintage look.”

Annamarie from Fynbos ensured that the look was completed with beautiful hair and make-up and Eloise's hair was finished off with a beautiful clip that the bride bought from Shauri designs.

Johan-Henry opted to buy his suit, instead of hire it, and looked just as ravishing on the day.

DETAILS

“We never had a theme to our wedding, until my stepsister, Michan Conradie, noticed the theme "In The Arms of Love" running throughout the day, says Eloïse. With green and white as their main colour scheme, Cecile from Fynbos incorporated the Arum Lily in their centrepieces and created a relaxing, but elegant feel.

THE CAKE

"The wedding cake was a true centrepiece (after me, of course). A sculpture, with a hundred masterpieces of art”, says Eloïse. Sonnet & Gertruida Strydom was responsible for the baking and decorating of the cake. It consisted of beautiful carrot cup cakes individually wrapped with white paper and decorated with green ribbon. Each cupcake was iced and finished off with a handmade sugar crafted arum lily.

DIY BRIDE

The groom, Johan-Henry was responsible for the invitations, while Eloïse made the thank you cards.

PHOTOGRAPHS

Ingrid Marais took the most amazing pictures and captured each special moment of the couple’s wedding day. One almost feels like you were a part of the wedding when you look at them.

ADVICE

Eloïse’s advice to future brides: “Enjoy every moment of your wedding planning and especially your wedding day! Not everything might work out as planned, but it will not make the day less special! There is just something about that day that makes it different from all the other days, truly a day to cherish. Carpe Diem! “
