The South African Wedding Guide

There are few people who can resist the smell of popcorn and creating a popcorn bar at your wedding will be a fantastic alternative to wedding favours.

Not only is this idea fun, but it can also be cheaper than the traditional candy buffet. With a variety of gourmet flavours available including the traditional salt, butter and cheese, flavours like cinnamon, strawberry, chocolate and sour cream are also now widely available.

Have a dedicated person on the day to make fresh popcorn as needed, as it will go soft and chewy if not kept fresh. Have either personalised cones or boxes handy for guests to put their popcorn in.

Love this idea? Are you doing this at your wedding? Then send us your pictures.

We love how bridal showers have evolved and how many bridesmaids are now taking the lead and creating memorable showers for the bride to be's, incorporating either themes or colours, but leaving the guests feeling like they got a taste of what the bride loves most.

This theme is a perfect example of mixing vintage with modern and keeping it all girly at the same time. By using different shades of pink and throwing colours like yellow brown and blue in the mix, this bridal shower indicates that the bride loves to have fun. Different patterns also make for an interesting showcase.

By creating different food stations for the guests to visit, you'll keep them occupied and entertained and this will also encourage the guests to mingle with each other. You don't necesserily have to use thousands of rands worth of flowers, but rather use bunches tied at every station and decorate with old suitcases, board games and beautiful napkins.

Most guests will tell you that they tend to remember a party by the food that was served together with the overall feel of it. Keep it interesting by serving sweet and savoury eats and also have different alcholic and non-alcholic drinks available. Keep the eats simple to avoid having to serve the food with eating utensils. Rather opt for smaller finger foods and keep napkins around for the messy eaters.

This beautiful 1940's inspired wedding theme would be the perfect accompiment to a morning or tea time wedding. With subtle hues and pastel colours nothing is overpowered yet compliments each other.

With so many simple ideas that can be used, you can definitely save on the budget too and try and do some of the things yourself. I love how an ordinary wooden peg, a coca cola glass bottle as well as a wooden dart board can be used and adds to the wonderful simplistic overall feel.

Serve snacks that are easy to manage with a small sideplate, or even picked up by hand. Snacks that are already packaged will also work well. Stick to soft colours if you want the "tea time" feel and use flowers that are feminine and soft.

By using watering cans, old tin cans and even glass bottles you'll have many choices to use when it comes to finding containers to put your flowers in. Find old wooden frames and even and old weathered ladder could all be used in your decor. I love how this couple also incorporated a type-writer to add to the vintage feel.
