The South African Wedding Guide

Walking down the aisle with her dad was one of the most memorable moments for Jade, who married Savo at the St. Hugh’s Anglican Church on 7 January 2011. The couple, who were first legally married in Bosnia, came to Jade’s hometown of Port Elizabeth to make it official in front of family and friends. Instead of signing the registry, the couple had a communion service in which the guests were able to join in celebrating this memorable event.

ATTIRE

Johan Wolmarans, renowned for his exquisite gowns, designed Jade’s beautiful gown, which was untraditional in white and matt silver. This off-the-shoulder design features a pleated bodice with lace detail between each pleat.

Jade’s flawless make-up was done by talented professional make-up artist, Theano Zenios and her hair was done by Cedric at Fiona’s Hair Salon.

Savo and his best man who both wore black, finished their look off with dashing red ties.

DETAILS

Following the ceremony, the 60 guests made their way to the beautiful country venue La Cigale where the reception took place. While enjoying their refreshments, guests were treated to live music by Key Concepts.

Lynley from Floral Creations by Lynley created a striking look with a combination of black, white and teal. Beautiful white orchids were showcased in tube cylinders which were placed on chipped-mirror plates made by Jade’s cousin. Small candles surrounded the centrepieces, which created stunning reflections when lit. The décor was hired from Riette at Designer Décor, which provides brides with stunning, up to date wedding accessories. The venue was draped in white by Elise from Elise Draping and Décor.

Instead of numbering their tables the couple chose to use descriptive words such as love, joy, patience and faith, which basically describes what their marriage would be based on.

Papermaster printed the invitations and most of the other wedding stationery, which completed the look.

Each guest was treated to a mini Sally Williams nougat bar.

THE CAKE

The Baking Shop baked “the best ever chocolate cake”, as described by Jade. It consisted of a two-level white square cake with a black ribbon around it and adorned with white icing droplets.

PHOTOGRAPHS

Julie Randell was responsible for capturing the couple’s most intimate moments during the day. Her love and dedication for photography truly shows in the beautiful photos she took.

ADVICE

Jade’s advice to future brides: “Involve the family and always involve your fiancé when planning the wedding, and don’t forget to listen to their advice and surf the net as much as possible. Don’t forget to step into the unknown and dare to be different. Try to mingle with your guests and appreciate them being there on the day of the wedding. That was one part of the day I also loved was to talk to most of the guests during the cocktails before we went to take the photos and the reception. I was so happy the videographer and the photographer understood our request and did an absolutely amazing job. The wedding planner at the wedding venue was amazing and the day went smoothly without any hiccups “that I know of”, so I would recommend a wedding planner if possible and live music at the reception is always a guaranteed hit.

Thanks for sharing your wedding with us!

Heart Felt DIY

We had so much fun doing this month’s DIY which consists of beautiful “FELT” hearts hanging from a piece of string. Once again thanks so much to Ingrid Marais (www.ingridmarais.co.za) who made this project possible.

With our simple step by step instructions you will be able to create yours in no time. Get creative and use fun colours if you like, and try and play around with different colour thread for an extra feature. This is what you’ll need:

  • "FELT” cut into squares big enough to fit the heart templates on. (Different colours)
  • Heart Templates (Download here)
  • Scissors
  • Thread (Different Colours)
  • Raffia
  • String

Now follow these easy steps:

STEP ONE

Cut out hearts from the felt by using the downloaded templates.

STEP TWO

Stitch the two different sized hearts together using a different coloured thread.

STEP THREE

Take the piece of raffia and make a loop. Stitch the two loop ends to the heart at different angles.

STEP FOUR

Weave the hearts onto the string.
