Granddaughter of former US president Goerge W. Bush, Lauren Bush married designer Ralph Lauren’s youngest son, David Lauren, in a Western-themed wedding at the Lauren family’s ranch in Colorado on 3 September.
Bush wore a long-sleeved wedding dress, designed by Ralph Lauren, made of tulle, lace and crystals. The gown took 3,000 hours to make with 100 craftspeople hand-embroidering pearls, small flower motifs and Renaissance-era scroll designs in ivory silk and metallic thread.
In keeping with the “rustic elegant” theme, the bride and her bridesmaids wore cowboy boots. Her bridesmaids were dressed in white linen blouses, vests, and vintage prairie skirts. “They looked like Little House on the Prairie,” says Lauren. Victorian earrings were borrowed from a friend. Her dress and boots were new; the headpiece old; and something blue? Lauren says, “I wore blue socks.”
David wore an old-timey suit with tails and gold chains hanging from the pockets.
A reception followed in the 200-year-old barn, which was decorated with flowers including wild roses, lily of the valley, Queen Anne’s lace, and delicate gardenias. Country singer Michael Martin Murphey performed and the dinner menu included steaks from the ranch along with a vegetarian option.
