We all love a happy ending, and this love story has just that.
95-Year-old Lillian Hartley and 98-year-ld Allan Marks first met 18 years ago when Allan struck up a conversation with Lillian by complimenting her on her dress… and they fell in love.
The couple, who describe themselves as the “Romeo and Juliet of senior citizens”, walked down the aisle with a combined ages of 193 years, eight months and 3 days and are hoping to have secured their place in the Guinness Book of Records for the oldest couple to get married. This will only be official once they have provided proof of their age to the organization.
Until now, the oldest bride and groom according to the Guinness Book of Records was a title held by a couple from France who married in 2002 with a combined age of 191 years, 126 days.
The couple revealed they’ve been “living in sin” for the last 15 years. While Lillian admitted she’s not especially religious, she and Allan decided to make their union official as they want to be together for all eternity.
The elderly couple exchanged vows on February 29th at a California county clerk’s office, with neither the bride nor groom dressing up in full bridal outfits for the occasion. Because they tied the knot on Leap day, they won’t celebrate their first wedding anniversary until 2016.
... and they both lived happily ever after.
