Paul McCartney married Nancy Shevell, an American heiress, at Old Marylebone Town Hall in London on Sunday 9 October 2011. The intimate wedding ceremony took place in front of 30 guests including Ringo Starr and Shevell’s cousin, Barbara Walters. Nancy wore an ivory knee-length dress with button detail, designed by her new step-daughter Stella McCartney. She carried a bouquet of pink and yellow roses.
Paul’s daughter, Beatrice, was the flower girl and wore a floral wreath in her hair. Following the vows, a reception was expected to follow at McCartney’s farmhouse in St. John’s Wood. After the ceremony, which lasted just over an hour, the newlyweds returned to McCartney’s home in St. John’s Wood for an evening reception. Rock’n’roll royalty including Starr, Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood and guitarist Jeff Beck attended the reception, as did model Twiggy and artist Tracey Emin.
This is the third marriage for McCartney. He and first wife Linda married at this same Town Hall in 1969. McCartney was married for 29 years to American photographer Linda until her death from breast cancer in 1998. He said at the time that he and Linda had spent just 11 nights apart during their marriage. This is Shevell's second marriage. According to reports, McCartney composed a song for Shevell especially for their big day.
