The First Gown
After months of secrecy, Kate Middleton‘s wedding dress details were finally revealed on Friday morning.
The v-neck gown with a long-sleeved laced overlay was designed by Sarah Burton, creative director for Alexander McQueen.
The bodice, skirt and underskirt were made of French Chantilly and English lace. The full skirt was made with white satin gazar arches and pleats representing an opening flower. The train of the gown is 2 metres and 70 centemetres.
Kate’s veil was made of layers of soft, ivory silk tulle with a trim of hand-embroidered flowers and was held in place by a Cartier ‘halo’ tiara, lent to her by The Queen.
The Ring
Crafted by Wartzki, Kate's wedding band came from a piece of gold given to William by the Queen. Prince William chose not to wear a wedding band.
The Kiss
At 1:25pm, the couple kissed for the first time for the public to see on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
The Second Gown
Kate Middleton showed off her second wedding dress of the day as she left Clarence House for the evening dinner dance at Buckingham Palace thrown by Prince Charles. The gown, a white satin strapless evening gown with a circle skirt and diamante detailing around the waist, was also designed Sarah Burton. The Duchess of Cambridge paired it with a white angora bolero cardigan. Prince William changed from his Colonel of the Irish Guards uniform to a black tuxedo.
Bridesmaids
Bridesmaids wore dresses by Nicki Macfarlane using the same fabrics as the bride's dress. As a memento, their name and the date of the wedding were hand-embroidered onto the lining of each dress.
