Grooms, Choose the Right Suit
Posted: 01 August 2010

Grooms, choosing the right attire for you is just as important as your fiancé choosing the perfect wedding dress. A well-tailored suit is the most popular wedding attire option for grooms, but not all suits are the same, and choosing one that will flatter you is vital. Consider the following when choosing your outfit for the big day.
Suit or No Suit
While it remains the most popular choice for most weddings, a formal tuxedo or suit can look out of place in some instances. When getting married on the beach a formal tux just won’t do. Rather opt for an open collared shirt with a casual jacket.
Choosing the Right Suit
You need to look your best, after all, it’s your wedding day too. There will be lots of photos taken and on the day and nothing looks worse than a poor fitting suit. Consider your frame when choosing your outfit.
Tall & Slim Grooms -Congratulations, you are one of the lucky grooms that can carry off fashionable 5 button jackets or double-breasted suits with ease. Higher necklines emphasise a long upper body and can look wonderful. If you're extremely thin and want to look bulkier, opt for shoulder pads to add bulk to the upper body.
Tall & Muscular Grooms - Opt for a simple suit with no frills. Go for a shawl collar and a deep V, it will make your upper body look longer. Avoid double-breasted jackets and pleated shirts, which add volume. Try stick to black and dark suits, as this has a slimming effect and will work well for you. Trousers with a subtle stripe are slimming and help avoid a blocky look.
Short & Slim Grooms - Tailoring is key, especially choose a very well crafted jacket. Steer clear of double-breasted jackets. Instead, go for a two- or three-button jacket with a low-button stance as this elongates the body. If you want to look a bit broader, ask your tailor for extra shoulder padding. Pleated trousers work best for grooms that lack height. Try and avoid black suits, and rather opt for morning grey or shades of grey.
Short & Stocky Grooms - Stick with a single-breasted jacket. Go for a classic two- or one-button jacket with a low-button stance and a shawl collar, which will keep your look streamlined and slim. Shoulder pads make the waist look smaller, as does a deep V neckline. Avoid pleated trousers! Dark grey is a better colour choice than black, however, you can wear black as well if you aren’t that stocky but just short.
