Choosing Your Honeymoon Destination
Posted: 20 August 2010

There are a few of things to consider when choosing your perfect honeymoon destination. Our simple guidelines will help you to choose the right honeymoon for you, so you don’t end up counding down the days to come back home!
The Duration
If you don’t have much time to get away after the wedding, then it’s best to choose a honeymoon destination closer to home, so that you have maximum enjoyment and less travel. Why not take a drive to a coastal village, instead of jetting off on a plane to a destination abroad. Include the drive in your honeymoon by visiting beautiful little towns on your way to your destination. If you want to feel like you’ve “left the country” then fly somewhere close, like to beautiful Mozambique for an adventurous honeymoon. The more time you have to get away, the further away you can go.
Your Ideal Setting
Some people prefer lazing around in the sun on a tropical island such as Mauritius or the Seychelles, whilst being served lavish cocktails and sweet treats. Others love the thought of walking hand in hand down a dusty road on a warm afternoon, and their idyllic setting would be somewhere like Zanzibar. For the extremists an adventure filled honeymoon backpacking through the country is ideal. Whatever your choice, just make sure that you’re both in agreement as to where your perfect honeymoon destination would be.
Things to Do
If an adventure filled honeymoon is what you have in mind, then make sure your new spouse agrees. Some people’s idea of a honeymoon is doing nothing, and other’s is to keep busy… choose your destination based on your preferred activities. If you are after water sports then a tropical honeymoon would be your ideal destination, however, if you love backpacking then choose a destination where the two of you can backpack through dense forests and explore what nature has to offer.
The Time of Year
You will need to consider the weather carefully – in many places it is not as simple as deciding between winter and summer; there are monsoon and flood seasons to consider, as well as the possibility of high humidity. Check websites of individual destinations for comprehensive weather information for your chosen time of year. Remember, if you book at the very beginning or end of monsoon season, you should get a cheaper rate with minimal risk of being blown away.
Your Budget
If you don’t have a lot of extra money to spend on a luxury honeymoon, then don’t opt for something that’s going to break the bank. Choose a destination that is closer to home and opt for a self-catering option rather than an all-inclusive resort. Decide whether you want to spend most of your honeymoon budget on the actual accommodation, or on activities in the area.
