Initial Venue Consultation
Posted: 14 August 2010

Be prepared when visiting potential wedding venues. Here’s what to bring to the initial consultation.
Your Sense of Style
Remember, you'll be spending those first precious hours as a married couple at your reception location. Where ever you decide to hold your reception, we know the location you choose is going to be etched in your mind forever. So get creative - find a place that will bring a twinkle to your eye even when you're old and grey.
A Camera
Did your mother and your fiancé feel left out last time you mentioned yet another location scouting expedition? A camera is the next best thing. Also, once you've selected the location, you can show the photos to your suppliers for décor inspiration. If you can bring one along, a video camera is also a great help.
Your Priorities
Decide what type of wedding you want. Knowing your theme is important when planning your reception. Just don't be so rigid with your plans that you shut the door on inspiration.
A Strict Budget
A large portion of your wedding expenses will be spent on your reception location. So stick to your guns - among all the hotels, restaurants, game lodges, bed and breakfasts and country clubs in your area, we're sure that you'll find a sweet something that leaves you just a bit breathless and fits nicely into your budget.
Know Your Timing
Decide what time of day your wedding will be held. Also have an idea of what time of year you'll be getting married. If you're planning a sit-down dinner in July, an outdoor reception at a luxury game reserve might not be quite so appealing.
Patience
You will know when you have found the venue for you. As soon as you arrive, it will feel automatically right. Your venue is the place where you are going to entertain everyone who is special to you - so take time to get it right. Don't rush. Give yourself plenty of time to make the right decision. Start looking one year before your wedding date.
